What is it?
The term Podcast is the contraction of two words: “Ipod”, the name of the digital music player invented by Apple, and “broadcast”. As the word suggests, it means listening to radio broadcasts on an audio player in Mp3, a good quality audio format.
How does it work?
You can listen to podcasts – that is, those multimedia files made available for downloading by various Internet sites – by installing a program on your computer that automatically memorizes your favourite transmissions on your digital music player or directly onto the computer. One of the better known programs is iTunes, developedby Apple, the iPod inventor. It can be downloaded free of charge at this address: www.apple.com. Once installed on your computer, this program lets you choose from a wide range of multimedia files, and suggests that you subscribe, often free of charge, to your favourite transmissions.
Vatican Radio is also one of the radio stations featured on the Internet. To simplify subscribing to our Podcast, you can proceed as follows: if iTunes is already installed on your computer, a click on this application icon will automatically register your subscription to the Podcast of the English edition of Vatican Radio. You can also go to the RSS-Podcast page of our website and follow the indications at the bottom of the page.
What Podcasts are available?
Numerous reportages on the life of the Church and the activities of the Holy See are available on the Website. You can listen to the Podcasts at your convenience, whenever and wherever you like. You can make your own palimpsest, select your favourite programmes, and enjoy a new flexibility in radio listening.
